Aboriginal Affairs & Canada’s North

Our Position

Members of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce recognize the importance of Aboriginal peoples’ economic development interests to their success and our nation’s economy. They have adopted policies they believe will provide additional economic development options and opportunities for Canada’s Aboriginal peoples.

Much of Canada’s untapped natural resources wealth is believed to lie in its territories. In 2011, Yukon and Nunavut had Canada’s highest and second highest annual gross domestic product (GDP) growth respectively. Our economic well-being and international competitiveness could well depend upon the public policies adopted today that create the conditions to fully leverage the economic potential of our territories.
